B407 N08800 Heat Exchanger Tube Application

1. Heat Exchangers

B407 N08800 Heat Exchanger Tube Strength

N08800 nickel alloy (Incoloy 800) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with excellent high temperature, corrosion and oxidation resistance. Its strength performance depends on the composition of the material, the heat treatment state and the operating temperature. The following are typical strength performance data for N08800 nickel alloy heat exchanger tubes:
1. Mechanical properties at room temperature

• Tensile Strength: ≥500 MPa (typical value: 500-700 MPa)
• Yield Strength: ≥200 MPa (typical value: 200-300 MPa)
• Elongation: ≥30% (typical value: 30-45%)
• Hardness: ≤90 HRB (Rockwell Hardness)

2. Factors affecting strength

• Heat treatment: N08800 alloys are usually treated with Solution Annealing to improve their strength and corrosion resistance.
• Cold working: Cold working (such as cold drawing or cold rolling) can increase the strength of the material but reduce the ductility.
• Operating temperature: At high temperatures, the strength of the material will gradually decrease, but it is still superior to many other alloys.

3. Strength comparison with other materials

• The strength of N08800 alloy is higher than that of ordinary stainless steel (e.g. 304, 316), but lower than some high-strength nickel-based alloys (e.g. Inconel 625 or Incoloy 825).
• Its advantage lies in its overall performance in high temperature and corrosive environments.

4. Strength consideration in application

• Heat exchanger tube: N08800 alloy heat exchanger tube needs to withstand high temperature, high pressure and corrosive media, so its strength design needs to consider the following factors:
• Operating temperature and pressure.
• Corrosiveness of the medium.
• Thermal cycling and thermal stress.
• Safety factor: In practical applications, safety factors are usually set according to design specifications, such as ASME or EN standards, to ensure the reliability of materials under extreme conditions.
